Dang, a much better name than OneSchool. Yale School of Medicine Edward Zigler Center in Child Development’s School of the 21st Century is a program to provide communities with resources so that the school can become a community institution responsive to local needs. They provide parenting support, referral services, champion universal preschool and provide health services! An article by the founders of 21C from 1996 even talks about the important of have colocated childcare
It’s going to take a lot to hold a candle to a Yale outreach program, especially when OneSchool’s vision is have the referral services already colocated in the building where children already are going to learning. What strikes me is how is the model not already a national implementation? I’m under no illusions about the staggering challenges that will impede this vision, funding primarily. Even Yale requires “mixture of parent fees and local, state, federal, and private dollars” to operate the 21C schools.
It cannot be overemphasized that the metacrisis of environmental, ecologic, economic, social, spiritual crises are fundamentally an education crisis. If we don’t invest NOW in education, we won’t have a future economy or environment to exploit!
In any case, I was excited to learn about this program and and trying to connect. If anyone would be able to make an introduction, I would be much obliged!
